Crave Wiki Updated

-Christopher Uzhuthuval

The Crave Wiki has been updated . Unlike previously where only Savio made updates, now we have the crave members as registered users authorized to make their updates. We plan to have a separate group of people who will be moderating the updates made to Crave wiki. The updating of wiki is an on-going process and as we also hope to make it a one-stop help destination. The on-going events and projects will be updated on the wiki.

On the sidelines we will be updating the Crave(Joomla) site and DUCS site will be updated to DUCS(Joomla) site. Any comments on this will be appreciated.

Linux Workshop Successfull

-Christopher Uzhuthuval

DUCS(DBIT Undergrad Computer Society) conducted a Linux Introductory Workshop on 27, 28 & 29 of August. The Workshop was taken by Christopher and Joseph. The aim of the Workshop was to give a brief introduction to Linux.

Day One -- Introduction to OpenSource & Installation of Ubuntu.
Day Two -- Architecture, Package Manager of Linux.
Day Three -- Basic Shell Scripting.

The Linux Workshop given was a hit. People liked it, since our workshop was different from the usual stuff. We emphasized more on the practical aspect of it. For Ubuntu Installation we had used vmware-server, which was appreciated by one and all.

The most unique thing about our Linux Workshop was that we were the First among students & staff to use the Smart Board for Presentation. The Smart Board made the workshop more lively. The Feedback given for the 3-day workshop was inspiring too.

Rebirth of the Smart Board

-Vineet Phillips

3 years ago, the "smart" board entered the multimedia lab. It was just another white board for the staff. The board was scribbled upon, it was scratched etc etc. The board still has the "remains" of the brilliant colorful markers the lecturers used.

"PACHPI" (Mr. Joseph (php specialist)) has to conduct a linux workshop. He discovered the capabilities of the great board. He got the drivers, pestered "MEETA CHATNI" (Mr. Kevin Pinto) to get the supported equipment, coaxed "KUULA" (Mr. Vineet Phillips) to get the projector, installed the necessary applications and WAALLAH!! the SMART board had reached its intended level.

It was an evolution. The board which was nothing but some Legacy "writing on" tool had just been turned into touch screen, highly interactive User Interface. The level of the Interactivity increased when Beryl was implemented on it. The desktop cube moved with our fingers. Freshers were looking on with awe. The queue to try it out, was turning into a brawl. "Christa" (Mr. Christopher) rose from and away from his node for the first time. "Monty" (thats his name) was screaming "Blender.. Blender.. please invoke Blender!!". "NASTY NARU" (Mr. Narayan) created history. He removed his headphones!! (we saw his ears for the first time), testing the board with newly acquired zeal.

The lab was filled with an air of innovation. Although nothing was developed, the sense of discovery had inspired the CRAVErs.

CRAVErs RULE!!
